Born by about 1589 as Dorothy Hooker, daughter of Thomas Hooker of Marefield. Tilton, Leicestershire. Came feom Leicester, Leicestershire to Massachusetts Bay in 1634. First settled at Cambridge MA; moved to Hartford in 1636. Died before 27 May 1662 (date of inventory.
Dorothy (Hooker) Chester was sister of Rev. THOMAK HOOKER & of the wife of GEORGE ALCOCK. Her son LEONARD CHESTER had arrived in New England by 1633. It is probable that Dorothy emigrated with her brother & son in 1633, but there is no record of her in New England before 1 Dec 1634.
Married in Birstall, Leicestershire, 1 Jun 1609, John Chester. He was buried at St. Margaret's, Leicester. 30 Jul 1628.

Thomas Hooker [abt 1553-1635], Rev. Thomas Hooker's father, was the grandson of Thomas Hooker [abt 1500 - 1562 ] of Blaston, Leicestershire. Some family trees have his as the son of John Hooker, other trees have him the son of Kenelm Hooker. John and Kenelm are brothers, they are not the same person. John Hooker's will of 1558 names 2 children, son Thomas and daughter Frances. This Thomas is most likely the correct person. Kenelm Hooker is mentioned in his father's will of 1562. Some family trees have Thomas Hooker as the son of John Kenelm Hooker, or Kenelm John Hooker. These names should read John OR Kenelm Hooker. Please do not merge John and Kenelm Hooker, as they are different people.
