She married Rex Eugene Nielsen Nov 12, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple and they were blessed with four daughters. Gene died March 2, 1974. Margaret married Dee Sparks June 29, 1979 and he died May 21, 2005. She had a great love for both of her families. She was active in many positions in the LDS Church. She loved to sing and directed many choirs and was always involved in music."

Dad was very good with people. He always had friends around him.

He was a good MC. He was the MC at BYU for the 4th of July program once. We were sitting on the front row and he did a good job.

Dad studied in Chicago, at an embalming school so that he could become a mortician. He fixed an apartment in the basement of the mortuary which is where I was born. Uncle Paxman built the home that we lived in with a little of Dad's help.

Every year at Christmas Dad would write Christmas cards and send out. Often at that time he would write cards to people who owed him money for services he had provided as a mortician. The card would be sent with a paid in full receipt signed by Dad.

The year Dad died he took us to Yellowstone. We had a flat tire with no jack. Cars were going by but no one stopped and he did not try to get them to stop. So he scrounged around and kept finding rocks and gradually he was able to raise it. I was scared to death that car was going to come down on him but he managed to change the tire. While we were at Yellowstone he loved to fish and once when he was casting his line in he asked if I wanted to try. So after answering yes, I grabbed it and when casting caught the line in a tree. On the way home we stopped in a place in Wyoming and there was a woman giving fortunes. She told him he was going to live a long life. That was the summer before he died.

When Dad died I was 14-years-old. Verlin came running in yelling. I ran out of the house and saw them taking Dad in the ambulance to the Doctor's house. The ambulance was really an old car that was a part of the mortuary. The home that the doctor used as a hospital was on 1st East and between 1st and 2nd South in Provo. When I walked in very quietly to see him he said, "Is that you, Viv?" That was the last memory I had of him. He was not able to see but recognized me.

Lila Margaret Mitchell was born to Thomas Houston Mitchell and Elizabeth Ann Blyth in Vernal, Utah. She grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, in a wealthy family. They had a house at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon where she became acquainted with nature and rode her horse she called "Gentle Pet". She attended BYU and the University of Utah. where she received her teaching certificate. She loved teaching and taught school in Bountiful, Utah at Stoker School for three years.

Lila met William Anson Hatch at a dance but then decided to serve a mission for her church. She served in the Central States Mission and was the first female missionary to be called from Bountiful, Utah. Lila and Anson corresponded with each other while on her mission when she was surprised by a particular letter Anson wrote her proposing marriage to her. After returning from her service, they were married February 11, 1914, in the Salt Lake Temple.

She was an accomplished pianist, a hard worker, a kind and loving person and a wonderful mother. She and Anson lived in Idaho where they helped her in-laws at a furniture store they owned as well as helping on the farm. They then moved to Chicago where Anson attended embalming school. After moving back to Provo, Utah, Lila helped her husband operate the Hatch Mortuary.

During the depression as times got harder she and the children would go and collect fruit and vegetables from those who could not afford to pay for funerals. She would put up 600 quarts of fruit and vegetables each year. At Christmas her husband would write "paid in full" and send it to those families in need. She was a state delegate and served on the Utah County legislative committee.

When Mom was widowed with three living daughters and a son, she sold encyclopedia sets to help with finances. Throughout her life she always had a smile on her face and tried to help others all that she could. Never did I hear her complain or speak ill of others. She was a wonderful mother!

Mrs Elizabeth Ann Mitchell widow of the late Thomas Mitchell died at the residence Canyon Road yesterday after a lingering Illness. She was born In Nevada City, California, January 1, 1859. With her parents she moved to Utah, in the the same year. Mrs Mitchell and her husband were among the first time residents of Vernal, Utah. Later the they moved to Salt Lake, and from there to Bountiful where they lived fourteen years. For the past three years Mrs Mitchell has made her home In Salt Lake -- Obituary

Grandma was a very strong and independent women. She was great at sewing, cooking and taking care of her family. Grandma was also a service oriented and often helped others during whatever situation they needed help. --- Granddaughter, Vivian Hatch

Benjamin Thomas Mitchell’s Distinctive Contributions in the Restoration
Include the Following:
* He was a stone mason for the Nauvoo, IL Temple, dedicated May 1, 1846. As documented in official Church temple construction records, B.T. Mitchell sculpted the first sunstone for the Nauvoo temple. One of the original 30 sunstones is currently on display at the Smithsonian American History Museum in Washington D.C., right next to the original U.S. Star Spangled Banner. The Sunstone at the Smithsonian has a chiseled (M) marked on the upper left hand corner-likely indicating that the Sunstone at the Smithsonian was sculpted by Benjamin T. (M)itchell.
* He was ordained a Seventy at the Nauvoo Conference on October 6th, 1844 and was chosen as a Counselor in the 16th Quorum of the Seventies January 19, 1845.
* On his first Mormon pioneer trek, he was a Captain in the Heber C. Kimball Pioneer company, 1848.
* He carved the Salt Lake City Meridian Marker, currently located in the Church Museum-1st Floor
* He was a stone mason /foreman for the Salt Lake City, UT Temple, dedicated April 6, 1893. Benjamin Mitchell was a close associate with Brigham Young, Truman Angell and others in drawing up the plans for the Salt Lake temple.
* He served a mission in Nova Scotia, Canada, 1852-1855.
* Returning from his mission and on his second Mormon pioneer trek, he led a Mormon Pioneer company, the Benjamin Thomas Mitchell Company, 1854.
* He served as the Bishop of the Salt Lake City, Utah 15th Ward in 1857.
* He sent two of his sons to work as stone masons on the Saint George, UT Temple, dedicated April 6, 1877.
* He helped develop “Deseret” Salt Lake City as a stone mason by constructing commercial and government buildings such as the ZCMI, the Courthouse and a bank building.
